Talk About Depressing…

Posted in Davis, Food, Movies on January 21st, 2007

Well, kind of. I was thinking of summarizing my week instead of my day, being as the blunt of it is simply “Worked like a slave horse…” I figured that wasn’t quite fair to myself though. In case you couldn’t tell, my primary goal in this site is to allow me to remember the unfolding of events, not just that they happened. I like having a nice, clear time-line to follow, so that I might see my progression in a class, the deepening of a friendship, and sometimes even just the change in my habits as time goes by. At the same time, I make this journal public because I am a social person, and I often participate in activities with others. Being as not every single one of my friends uses Facebook, and I can’t send hundreds of megabytes of pictures on a weekly basis (my poor Gmail account would surely die), I choose to present the events and pictures here, along with a little explanation. I know this exposition is rather late, but if anyone read the very first entry I wrote, this is basically a summarization of that post.

Monday: Worked… It was President’s Day, so Shakeh also came over and later that night we watched The Libertine and Team America (F*** Yeah!). The Libertine was good, and no, not just because Johnny Depp was in it. If you have yet to view it, and you want to see a somewhat funny, but inherently sad movie, I recommend this one for sure.

Tuesday: Worked… I had my meeting with Kwan-Liu. I told him all the things I would like and would not like in a project for Volume Viz, and he seemed to be pleased. I had to meet with him again at a later date though, since he wanted to think of a project for me and discuss it before the week was over. Tumbling was fun, though I freely admit I’m horrible. We’re learning to do cartwheels. I think that indoor soccer and tumbling might be a bit much for one day though, especially without a nap. Soccer leaves me fatigued, and tumbling leaves my muscles weak. All in all a bad combination. We had a girl’s night, kinda. It was Shakeh, Sunny, Sara, Jeremy, and me. We went to Sophia’s, then to Baskin Robbins for dessert.
Wednesday: Worked… We had our group meeting, and we’re all still stressing about the paper deadline, being as it’s very close and we aren’t yet finished. That means we have to write the paper and code simultaneously, instead of having all of our results and writing the paper about the results. I’m slowly proving to myself that I’m the best person in my racquetball class, which saddens me. I wanted some more competition, since one rarely gets better by dominating. I know I can challenge myself somewhat, and I am, but I would still like someone against whom I can play and see my skills progress by the changing of the score. Oh, I almost forgot. We all got to talk to Chiara around lunch time. Sara called her on Skype, so we got to play a little bit of catch-up. Shakeh and I both had work to do, so we just got some Round Table for dinner, and then went back to my place. We put on some South Park in the background and worked until we went to sleep.
Thursday: Worked… Tumbling and soccer again.. fun but I repeat Tuesday’s sentiments. Had another meeting with Kwan-Liu, this time he had a project in mind and we discussed it. It seems like it will be fun, I guess time will tell. Rachel came over and we watched some Australian Open matches, and then Nevada basketball. The Wolf Pack won, 85-75, w00t!

Friday: Worked… Showed up early to the coffee/donut/bagel day, so I didn’t get anything unfortunately. Basically worked all day, taking a small break to bring Shakeh lunch and eat with her. Becoming increasingly frustrated with certain aspects of the project. Shakeh was taking care of things at her place, so I brought her Quizno’s for lunch. I worked for the rest of the day, until about 19:30, when I went to the I-House for a dessert buffet. I didn’t stay long though, just enough to say hi, meet some new people, have some yummy dessert, and then go home.
Saturday: Worked… Worked… Worked…

Sunday: Worked… Worked… Worked…

Work Work Work

A piece of advice for everyone out there, don’t bother trying to “plan ahead” for SIGGRAPH, it doesn’t work. That deadline is always closer than you think. Whether you like it or not. With that in mind, my usual recaps are much shorter until this paper is turned in (hopefully to SIGGRAPH, but possibly to Eurographics).
Monday: Lots of work, some PE, etc. Started loading the Boeing, that’s gonna be fun to work with. It’s so big! Three-hundred million triangles and then some! Oh, I also played Racquetball with Rachel. She was kinda sick so I had to take it easy on her though ; )

Tuesday: Indoor soccer and tumbling = ) Kwan-Liu also lectured, if you know what I mean. I got a picture of Lucy finally, and she’s “rel purdy-like.”

Wednesday: Group meeting was today. Pretty much worked all day.
Thursday: Worked even more.

Friday: Insert more work here. I went to Coffee/Bagel day at the GSA lounge for the first time. It was nice, I got to say hi to Larone and Irina, as well as get some free food. I went to Best Buy with Alex and bought a nice, big flash drive (4GB) for less than eighty bucks. Tony, Shakeh, and I went out to Dos Coyotes for lunch, and were then going to go to Woodland for Tony. However, right when we were about to leave, he remembered he had a meeting he needed to go to, so those plans got cancelled. Shakeh and I went to Woodstock’s that night with Club-I. We had a bunch of people over later for “The Princess Bride,” which was awesome.

Sunday: [Insert even more work here]

WTF?!?! Class?!?!

That’s right… school is already back in session. And of course, what day does school begin, not on a Monday like a sane person would expect, but on a Wednesday. I guess I was ready to go back, but come on! I’m used to having several weeks of break, not just two. And to make things worse, Spring Break won’t be much better.

Weekly roll:

Monday was “The Day After.” I cleaned up the place, worked for awhile, then waited for my Mike and Bri to get into town. I was originally going to go to dinner with Sunny and them, but they got in too late, and Sunny was already going to Franci’s to watch a movie. I too was going to go, but after dinner. Mike and Bri got in, checked out my place, then we headed to pick Sunny up and drop her off at Franci’s. After that, we went to Pluto’s for some yummy salads. Shakeh called me while we were eating and told me that Kolby had just left (this was around 2100), so her and Ninette would join us at my place. In the meantime, Mike, Bri, and I went back to my place to watch some South Park. Shakeh and Ninette showed up about half an hour later. I assisted with introductions, then we sat and talked for another half an hour, at which point in time Mike and Bri had to leave. The three of us remaining were all still hungry to some extent, so Shakeh and I went to In ‘N Out while Ninette took a nice nap.

Tuesday, Shakeh, Ninette, and I hung out. We went to Posh Bagel, then went back to Shakeh’s to help Ninette pack up her stuff. I went home and worked while they packed, then we all met up again and went to the movie theatres on F street to watch Happy Feet. After the movie, we went to Kabul for some Afghani, then headed to the airport to drop off Ninette.

Wednesday school started… ugh! I walked with Shakeh to campus, then biked to the ARC. I worked out for an hour or so, then headed off to my classes for the usual instruction. Racquetball seems like it might be fun, volleyball definitely will be (there were enough people that we just played pick-up), and I don’t really know about basketball. After class, I went home, showered, and then got some work done. I had a meeting to go to, so I biked back to campus. Shakeh was out of class and we met at the MU for food. After we ate, we went back to my place for a bit to rest and get some work done, before Shakeh had to go to class. I dropped her off at her class, then went home, worked for awhile, and came back to pick her up.

Thursday I had my other classes, soccer, badminton, and tumbling. I’m really excited about tumbling! It seems like it’s going to be a ton of fun, and I might learn some cool stuff. After class I went home and showered, then met up with Shakeh and a bunch of the international students for lunch. I walked Shakeh to her class, then headed over to my weekly meeting. I worked for a little bit after the meeting, then went to my Volume Visualization class. Once that was out, I went home and ate. Shakeh and I went to Delta of Venus where we met up with the international students again. We hung out for awhile, then went home to get some sleep.

Friday I had the wonderful experience of getting another filling put in my mouth. I went home and did some work, then met Shakeh at her place after she got out of class. We were going to go to the mall, but neither of us really felt like it, so we just chilled instead. Meaning we grabbed some In ‘N Out, went to my place, and watched a bunch of South Park and worked. I went bowling with Abhi and the gang that night while Shakeh stayed and worked at my place. We had to wait almost two hours to get a lane, but we had some fun once we finally got bowling.

Saturday, Shakeh and I just worked a bunch until I had to leave for SFO. Rachel was due to arrive at SFO around 1830, so I headed out around 1630. I drove over the San Mateo bridge, which I must say is the longest bridge I can recall ever being on. I thought the Bay Bridge might be, but it is split in two by Treasure Island, and even with that, I think the San Mateo Bridge might be longer. Anyways, I picked up Rachel, refueled, then began the trek back home to Davis. We got in, dropped Rachel’s stuff off, then spent almost an hour getting her to Camran’s place. It wouldn’t have been nearly that hard, except that we couldn’t get ahold of anyone who knew where he lived. After I dropped Rachel off, Shakeh and I had dinner, got ready, and then headed to Chiara’s party at Miles’ place. We stayed there for about an hour, but I was way too tired, and I didn’t want to fall asleep driving back.

Sunday, my parents came into town. We walked to Posh Bagel, then I took them on a small walk around the campus. After we finished with the campus, we walked back through downtown again to look at some of the local shops, then headed home to meet Shakeh. Once we were all gathered, we went back into town to eat at Chef’s Market. What happens though? The damn place is gone! Completely disappeared altogether. We instead went to Woodstock’s and had some good pizza. After that, my parent’s took off, and Shakeh and I hung out at my place and worked until 2100, when we stopped to watch some TV.
